William Ding, a first-grader at Athens-Chilesburg Elementary, placed sixth in the national Crayola Online Art Exhibition. His submission was titled “My G Worlds and Words”: I want a GREEN world where giraffes, gorillas, gerbils and goats graze on grapes, gourds, grass and gladiolus in the garden while gulls fly by. A GROSS world is where gnats, germs and ghosts around, garbage men that wear gas masks.

Anyone who spends time with students knows they’re bound to crack you up with something unexpected.  Do you have a funny anecdote about one of our school kids? Submit your story for consideration in Stu's News.

A little girl in kindergarten at Rosa Parks Elementary asked her teacher whether two people are married after they kiss. The teacher explained that the people have to be in love and say their vows to each other, and then they kiss. The child responded, “So, all you have to do is say A, E, I, O and U and then you are married?”

We’re always on the lookout for unusual school programs and interesting people to spotlight. Send your suggestions to Tammy Lane. Please include your full name, school and a daytime phone number.

Don’t stop short of your goal!

Whew, it’s finally the last week of the semester. Final exams, last-minute papers to turn in, etc., etc., etc. Intense, intense, intense! I told Dad I am ready for a break! SamDad told me that sometimes just as we get very close to reaching our goal, we stop just short of it. He said that now is the time to work harder rather than relax because the break will be here before we know it. Relax, stop short? Not me – my goal is 10 biscuits, and I won’t stop until I get them all. I just love goals.

Bow wow and Happy Holidays to all my friends!
